Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the presentation of proposals for measures to strengthen seismic safety on May 13, the President's press service reports.
It is noted that since 2017, 11,410 multi-storey houses have been built in the regions. This serves to sufficiently provide the population with housing and improve living conditions.
The field of seismology, which is one of the foundations of construction, is also being developed. In this regard, attention is being paid to the implementation of innovative technologies in cooperation with foreign scientific centers.
It is known that a devastating earthquake occurred in Tashkent on April 26, 1966. The President of Uzbekistan proposed the initiative to establish a day of memory and solidarity to honor the victims of the earthquake and to emphasize the need for international cooperation in this regard. Recently, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring April 29 as International Day of Remembrance for Earthquake Victims.
To comply with international standards in this area, the head of state has set the task of strengthening the quality of newly constructed houses. Accordingly, measures are being taken to increase the earthquake resistance of multi-storey houses and ensure the seismic safety of the population.
In particular, studies have been conducted in the regions with the participation of specialists from state project institutes. Based on the results of these studies and the analysis of the seismic condition of the regions, proposals have been developed to further improve this system.
Accordingly, with the involvement of foreign specialists, a new practice for studying buildings will be implemented. The exchange of experience in constructing earthquake-resistant and other disaster-resistant houses will be expanded. Buildings will undergo instrumental technical inspections, and deficiencies will be addressed.
Based on these studies and foreign experience, amendments will be made to regulatory documents regarding the assessment of seismic risk, impact, and hazard.
The President emphasized that quality and safety are paramount in construction, and provided instructions for the scientific development of these areas and the introduction of modern approaches to the sector.
